The First of Their Name: Chapter Eight

Wrap It Up/ Yusra Sami

Modesty is an emphasized characteristic in Islam. Although, the definition and explanation is extremely broad, detailed, and covers behavioral, external and internal aspects of a person; for most of us, trying to dress in a modest manner leads the way to other aspects of personal development. Although it does remain much up to the person in question to step towards their own growth, it can be motivating to have encouraging people around oneself.

Yusra Sami is one such individual who has big dreams and even bigger determination to achieve them. She is working hard to not just find a ground for herself, but also for those who might require it. A budding motivational speaker and entrepreneur, she’s young and enthusiastic in pursuing what she feels is worth it. The last person to feature on the first instalment of this series ‘The First of Their Name’, she also happens to be the youngest. Here’s to hoping she inspires many more like she does the ones around her.

About:

As Salam Alaykum! My name is Yusra Sami. I am a 22 year old from Egypt that lives in Utah. I moved to the states on my own at the age of 18 to pursue a better standard of living. I am currently pursuing my Bachelors in both Business and Arts in Islamic Studies. Enhancing my knowledge is crucial to me.  I also started my Business, @WrapppItUp last year to empower women through the scarf they choose to wear. I enjoy writing about life whenever I get the chance to. I like outdoors (hiking, camping, etc). I also really love working out and taking care of my health. I am also currently trying to start a new sport/hobby.

Motivation:

My motivation behind my brand as well as my studies is to empower people through Islam. Wrap It Up is a scarves business that aims to empower women one wrap at a time. My Islamic Studies aim to educate myself and others on the beauty of Islam. I am working towards leaving the corporate world and focusing on teaching Islam in addition to managing my scarves business. My goal is to be able to do those two things for a living In Sha Allah. I want to be an advocate for the youth who don’t feel seen within the Muslim community.

How is Wrap It Up different from other similar brands?.

What sets Wrap It Up apart is that each scarf is hand picked from the best of all materials, Egyptian cotton. We want the scarf to not only look good, but feel good!

Vision ahead:

My plan is to create a safe and comprehensive environment for people, specifically converts. I am working on starting a center that will accommodate to their Dunya (Life) and Deen (Religion). Until then, I am trying to help where I can. I teach private customized Aqeedah (Creed) lessons and co-host an Islamic discussion every Sunday. I enjoy creating videos on the side on YouTube, Yusra Sami, and Instagram YusraSamii. Lastly, I help Women feel Beautiful in their unique Wraps.

Challenges:

Challenges are crucial to this up and down Journey. I faced judgement due to my young age and big dreams. However, the comments only enabled me to focus on what’s important. Is what I’m doing Truthful? If yes, Is it Useful? My advice to rising entrepreneurs is this Ayah from the Quran:

“And whosoever has Taqwa of Allah, He will make a way for him to get out. And He will provide him from where he never could imagine (37:105)”

He will always make a way for you!
